Job Description
Description: The Area 6 Director is a part-time member of the Special Olympics Kentucky staff that is responsible for providing strategic leadership and managerial direction and support within the defined region. The AD has the vital role of developing and maintaining strong relationships within the assigned region while directing a quality program. This position can work from home and will include evenings and weekends as well as regional travel (occasional statewide travel).
Counties of Area 6: Bell, Casey, Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Lincoln, McCreary, Owsley, Pulaski, Rockcastle & Whitley
Responsibilities:
· Work to foster a positive culture and team environment with the county/local programs and SOKY.
· Serve as a SOKY Point of Contact within Area 6 for Local Coordinators and Head Coaches. Work actively with them to support efforts to recruit new athletes, volunteers, and supporters.
· Work with the SOKY state staff to ensure that a quality year-round sports training and competition program is available to eligible individuals in the region.
· Communicate regularly and often to Local Coordinators and coaches to make sure they have all the latest information from SOKY. Work to make sure all local programs are aware of processes and protocols (how to start a new program, athlete medical forms, volunteer forms, proper use of logo, share the proceeds, fundraising, checking accounts, etc.).
· Serve as the Competition Manager for the Area 6 Bowling and Area 6 Track & Field competitions.
· Work with the SOKY Sports Team to support Region 2 and/or State events (when they are scheduled in your region).
· Work with the SOKY Sports/Program Staff to facilitate volunteer education requirements.
· If possible, support and attend the Annual SOKY Summer Games.
· Work with SOKY Unified Champion Schools Staff to promote the Unified Champion Schools program to schools in Area 6.
· Work with local programs and encourage support of State and National Fundraisers.
· Support and encourage participation in the Share the Proceeds fundraisers offered by SOKY.
· When possible, participate in SOKY monthly staff meetings via zoom.
· Represent SOKY at state meetings and conferences as needed (maybe some national meetings).
· Abide by General and Sports Rules of SOKY and Special Olympics, Inc.
· Communicate regularly and effectively with the VP of Field & Outreach Services.
