JOB OVERVIEW:
The Medical Technician/Scribe role is responsible for assisting Physicians and Mid-Level Practitioners with the evaluation, management, and treatment of patients at The Orthopaedic Institute. This position will work three days per week as a Medical Technician and two days per week as a Scribe .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Medical Technician Responsibilities (3 days/week):

• Maintain patient flow and the upkeep of exam and treatment rooms.
• Perform basic skills such as vital signs and point-of-care testing.
• Review patient history.
• Order X-rays.
• Draw up injections.
• Wound care.
• Suture and staple removal.
• Splinting/casting.
• DME application.
• Clean and stock exam rooms.
• Medical instrument packing and cleaning.
• Ensure bloodborne pathogen, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other governmental regulations are adhered to.
• Ensure all safety regulations are followed.

Scribe Responsibilities (2 days/week):

• Document patient history, exams, treatments, and provider instructions in the EMR.
• Prepare and send referral letters with reports and test results.
• Perform clerical tasks, coordinate referrals, and track follow-ups.
• Ensure charts are accurate, complete, and HIPAA-compliant.
• Support quality reporting and improvement efforts.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/LICENSE: CCMA or CNA preferred. CPR certified preferred
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years of medical office experience preferred
SKILLS:

• Excellent customer service skills.
• Comfortable working in fast paced environment.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficient with computer skills including experience with practice management software desired.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
• Possess the ability to fulfill any office activities normally expected in a direct patient care role in a medical office setting.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel, and reach with hand and arms.
• Occasionally lift and/or move over 25 pounds.
• Fine hand manipulation (keyboarding).
• Travel may be required to existing or new TOI locations.
