Oncology Outpatient Infusion Clinical Nurse at BJC summary:

The Oncology Outpatient Infusion Clinical Nurse provides specialized nursing care to oncology patients receiving intravenous treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood products in an outpatient setting. This role involves patient assessment, education on illness management and post-treatment care, coordination of individualized care plans, and active participation in quality and safety initiatives. The nurse works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team at the Siteman Cancer Center, supporting patient-centered care and professional development in a leading cancer treatment and research facility.

Additional Information About the Role
  • Siteman Cancer Center - North St. Louis County location
  • Days, Monday - Friday; No Weekends, Holidays or Call
  • 8-hr shifts (must be available between the hours of 7:30 am - 5 pm)
  • Nurses can float between our locations at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Peters, South County & West County
  • Two years of RN experience in Oncology or a critical care area required
  • Up to $15,000 Sign on Bonus eligible

The Outpatient Cancer Center provides intravenous administration of medication, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood products. Direct specialized patient care and education for the outpatient Oncology population, including Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and Hematology patient population.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
