Flight Instructor

Provide flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with the Liberty School of Aeronautics and FAA regulations and procedures. Prepare schedules, maintain records, and ensure that course standards, training requirements, and objectives are met by each student in each flight course. Maintain high levels of aeronautics and flight training knowledge. Maintain high proficiency in flight instruction skills. Accomplish the additional duties assigned by the respective supervisor.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Train and mentor students according to the Liberty School of Aeronautics Flight Operations Manual and in accordance with Liberty's vision of Training Champions for Christ.
• Perform flight instructor duties as authorized by the Federal Aviation Regulations in accordance with the Liberty University School of Aeronautics approved Training Course Outline.
• Ensure students are scheduled for the correct lesson in the correct aircraft and that each procedure is done according to the Flight Operations Manual.
• Ensure all students understand and practice all aspects of the Liberty School of Aeronautics Safety Program as outlined in the Flight Operations Manual.
• Ensure satisfactory progress through the training course of each student.
• Maintain all appropriate records to include student training in MFT, student logbook records and a record of sign-offs.
• Initiate stage checks and requests for assigned students.
• Ensure timely course completion of all flight students assigned, including completion of required paperwork and assignment of final course grade.
• Monitor the maintenance condition of the training aircraft and inform dispatch of any aircraft maintenance discrepancy issues immediately.
• Recommend curriculum and course improvements when appropriate and develop new curriculum or course improvements as assigned.
• File safety reports as necessary on any observed safety violations, or potential situations that may affect the safety of operations.
• Keep your direct supervisor aware of where you are at during working hours. Workout schedule adjustments with your supervisor as needed.
• Keep current with continuing education: attending operations meetings, attending special training and standardization meetings when scheduled, attending other in-service training and instructor development meetings as assigned.
• Assist Director of Flight Operations with special projects.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies

• Minimum of Bachelor degree preferred.
• FAA Certified Flight Instructor, Airplane Single Engine Land (Advanced training encouraged: CFII, MEI, etc.).
• Aircraft piloting skills, including familiarity with and ability to perform required flight maneuvers and procedures.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply effective instructional technique in the classroom and in flight.
• Knowledge of appropriate Federal Aviation Regulations and Liberty School of Aeronautics Academic administrative, operational procedures and requirements.
• Must hold a current Third Class FAA Medical Certificate.
