Your Role: Art Teacher

As an Art Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a vital role in shaping the creative minds of our students. Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Become a Leader: Ensure you are highly qualified and certified to teach in public schools.
  • Be Present: Engage with students from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Supervise Students: Maintain a safe and enriching environment during class, breaks, and transitions.
  • Participate in Events: Join us for family nights, student performances, and other school events.
  • Design Curriculum: Research and document art standards for grades K-4/5-8.
  • Teach Art: Inspire students with engaging art lessons Monday through Thursday.
  • Lead Enrichment: Teach after-school enrichment classes two days a week.
  • Coordinate Programs: Oversee all aspects of the Art program, including vendor coordination and record maintenance.
  • Support Staff: Provide orientation on the art program during summer training.
  • Collaborate: Work with classroom teachers to integrate art with core subjects.
  • Engage Families: Involve families in their children’s artistic journeys.
  • Participate Actively: Join department and faculty meetings to contribute to our collaborative culture.
  • Meet Standards: Uphold our “Standards for Excellence in Art Instruction” and align with our core values.
  • Manage Resources: Keep curricular materials organized and accessible for current and future teachers.
  • Review Progress: Meet with the Principal to discuss results and future actions.
  • Complete Duties: Fulfill all necessary school-wide responsibilities for smooth operations.

  • Required Experience:
    • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban settings is preferred.
    • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required before starting. Certification is not mandatory at hiring, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements.

Compensation

The salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 , based on factors such as relevant teaching experience and education certifications.
